Silo Abstraction

Part of a lifelong series of barn building studies exploring the various stages of decrepitude of this fading rural history of the Berkshires. Diffused down to the basic shapes, marks and values. Perspective is collapsed and watercolor medium is used in a sketchy  manner.. Having not grown up here, to me these buildings look like monuments or sculpture — pieces of art. I relish their textures, shapes, and forms; I marvel at how they fall apart, get overgrown by the vegetation, and how their usefulness is fading.  They inspire in me a lot of emotion, story and mystery about what happened there. It’s utilitarian art.
